A new textile construction, untitled as of now, free hanging, 36×6 inches. At times, I find that I get too “tight” with my artwork and need to let go and go with the flow. That is exactly what I did with this piece. I found the fabric pieces that I printed or painted and loved, stitched them together, free motion quilted them to a substrate and then added three dimensional elements that just begged to be placed top and bottom. The top piece is a random weaving that is cut and shaped and the bottom element is just the same wire, swirled and hand stitched to the background. I didn’t think too hard and just let my artistic vision guide me.
At first I thought I would mount this piece to the same support I use for my totems, but I decided to let it hang on the wall as is. Surprisingly, I thought the finished piece would hang rotated 180 degrees, but seeing it this way convinced me it was done. Spontaneous, effortless, easy…from the studio
