This painting began as a blue/gold/b/w limited palette piece. As I looked at what I thought was the finished painting, for some reason I felt it needed something…my first instinct being the Raven atop the fence post. WHAT???? I have never placed a feathered creature anywhere in a painting or a quilt. Is this the start of something new?
He has flown off to a new home to be a companion to another Raven…hope he had a good flight….from the studio
I love the raven. I am partial to our winged friends, but I very much like his high perch!
Thank you…I so immediately and confidently saw him sitting up high. We think alike! Sue
I have not seen anything animal like from you before but great job. I like it!
I have never done animal or human form in any of my artwork. Maybe my experiment with the limited palette has left room for a new element to creep in. Sue
This really does give another dimension to your artwork !! He seems to command attention from his lofty perch!
Thanks, Barbara. I may try a few more Ravens in a piece I am working on now. They may influence a whole new series. Sue
I LOVE this! The bird drew me right in and I think was the perfect add to your piece. Not sure if you are aware that Draw A Bird Day is April 8! We celebrate it every year (well, and every month on the eighth too) and people contribute their bird art. Kerfe & Nina at Method Two Madness are hosting it this go-round, and we would love to have you join us! If you’re interested, post a link to this or any other post with bird art below their post on April 8. Kerfe will do the roundup a few days later with a link to everyone’s work! Here is their site, if you’re interested: https://methodtwomadness.wordpress.com/
Also, can I ask what substrate you worked on here? I love everything about this piece!
Laura,
Thank you for the information and for your enthusiastic accolades. The painting is acrylic on canvas. From the response I have gotten, I think there are more birds in my future! Sue
Yay, glad to hear it! Wow. I’d have almost thought you were painting on wood. Beautiful job!
