Behind the Scenes of ‘NESTLING’ Artwork

NESTLING…48x12x5

NESTLING…one of my favorite pieces made over the past few months. It started with feathers that I made years ago for a different piece that never got used…I made too many. I really loved the color palette, so it was a great start. I stuffed, wrapped and painted the hanging tubes… you can see them drying on my makeshift rack in the photo below.

The construction of the piece was more difficult than I anticipated. The number of tubes I used was much heavier than I anticipated, so the upper structure had to be reinforced and hung with a cleat instead of a wire…live and learn. I guess this is part of the process that is not taken into account often enough. I had the parts, but the completed presentation took quite a while to work out so that all would be secure. I persevered because I knew I would be pleased in the end.

In a few weeks, this piece is going to the exhibit, COLOR and FORM at the Capitol Rotunda Gallery in Santa Fe. I will post the specifics with an invitation next time...from the studio
