Creating MANTLE: A Textile Sculpture Process

MANTLE…34x23x5

MANTLE…another textile hanging in the WRAPPED Series. I used a heavier cording to wrap the tubes on this piece. I painted them in an earthy combination to compliment the driftwood hanger…I love this piece of wood and saved it for many years to use in just the right application. I have quite a stash of driftwood waiting patiently for the opportunity to become a significant contributor to a new and different sculpture.

This piece started simply with fewer hangings, but as I added a few more at a time, I knew it could become something more significant. More and more, shorter, longer, painted… all contributed to the sculpture as it is today….from the studio
