Behind the Scenes of My Quilt Exhibit Preparation

detail ROJO

Time, time, time…split between painting and quiltmaking! Today I would like to share some detail images of the quilts I have completed for an upcoming exhibit at the Step Up Gallery in Los Alamos, NM. I will share pictures of the entire quilt when they are hung and the exhibit opens.

As you will see in the details, I implemented the two techniques that I described in a previous post about doing what I do best. Each piece is densely free motion machine quilted and embellished with a 3D element. It is quite enjoyable to work on these quilts…it has been a while since I have created bigger wall quilts with a specific connection for an exhibit. Admittedly, some of it has been experimentation with construction, but I think I have settled on a few methods that are appealing to me.

I used simple materials for each quilt…mostly my own painted fabric, discharged linen, beautiful fine linens, one metal armature and various applied 3D embellishments. The whole process has been fun and creatively challenging. A few more details…

discharged linen…AGGREGATE
beginning quilting… AGGREGATE

The above two detail shots are from the same piece entitled AGGREGATE…all linen. The next detail is a quick peek at an element in a more unusual quilted presentation…looking forward to revealing more…from the studio
