I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I am developing a plan for a collection of three fiber pieces I plan to show in May at a local exhibit. While this planning was in its infancy, I remembered some advice given to the artists on Project Runway…one of my favorite tv design competitions: when making a collection, do what you do best. Sometimes as a regularly producing artist, I move on to things that expand upon my skills, but I must remember to go back to what I do best.
I know my strengths lie in intricate quilting and three dimensional “things”. SO…this plan involves both. The overwhelming part? In exploring designs, using these two skills exclusively, I have enough ideas for ten pieces. Not a huge problem…I could make all of them…but I need to cull it to three so I am able to finish them in time for the exhibit. I think I soon will find a common element to make this a cohesive collection…color, size, materials, theme…lots of ideas currently spinning in my head. I hope tomorrow all will fall into place, doing what I do best.

The image above is not part of this plan, but a detail from a recent painting I did for me, for our house. It does sort of represent the seed of all my ideas right now…I will definitely reign them in soon…from the studio
Another note…it is so sad the Joanns is closing its store in Santa Fe. It will be missed. It was so convenient for all the little things that a fiber artist runs out of at the last minute…interfacing, black backing fabric, canvas, needles, and on and on….
