Using the Rust Dyed Papers

Untitled as of now…16X20…mounted

This is the first piece I completed using the rust dyed paper. The right wing is the rust dyed paper, stitched, and the left wing is my painted fabric, quilted. The center piece is rust dyed paper, threaded with cording, stitched with waxed linen thread, embellished with a painted branch and black fabric fringe. I found the paper surprisingly adaptable and strong enough to manipulate and coax into different shapes.

BRAVERY…20×16…mounted

This second piece is in a similar format, both referencing book pages and spine. In this piece, the pages are dyed and over-painted, the spine is paper threaded with cording, painted Tyvek, netting, paper wrapped branches and waxed linen thread. I’ve mounted both pieces on watercolor paper applied to a canvas. I framed each piece in an acrylic box, so that the framing would not detract from the piece and I would have a 3 inch depth to hold the sculpture.

Below is a photo of the first piece framed. I need to solve two issues. How can I photograph the piece in the frame without reflections and how do I alleviate the static inside the frame? I photographed this one on the couch to give you an idea of the finished piece. If I photograph it on the wall, all you see is the piece with an image of me taking the picture. If you take a close look, the red thread strings on the upper right have “staticed” themselves to the acrylic. I can cut them short as they are along the bottom of the wing…OR…from the studio

This frame allows the piece to show well and protects it from dust
