This is a new piece that I delivered to Jupiter Gallery in Madrid yesterday. Many years ago…and I mean MANY… I did quite a bit of free motion embroidery on fabric, either painted ot dyed. This piece is on painted fabric and, in person, I like the subtleties of the color and what it adds to the overall appearance of the finished embroidery.
As you know, I have been focused on a tall and narrow presentation of my work. I think it is such a flexible piece of art in that it can be easily displayed in so many spaces. I mounted this embroidery on wood panels that I had “in stock” in my supply drawers. I so like the look, that I ordered more and will persue this presentaion in the future.
On a different note, I haven’t posted for a while for a few reasons. I spent a week on a self directed retreat to focus on larger pieces, painted and wrapped. I know that things don’t always turn out as envisioned, but this experience was that times ten. It just wasn’t working! Quite frustrating, but taken as a learning experience. It was also sad to see the diminishing of the town where I once lived quite happily. It was empty most of the week. Friday night was a gallery walk and there were more people around, so that was uplifting and it was good to see some really good artwork. I visited with some friends during my stay, but I found age and illness has taken a toll in so many lives and it was heartbreaking.
This past week, my husband and I went to Colorado and stayed in one of our favorite towns. His mission was to go mushroom hunting and mine was to lollygag in town…very small..but with a few great restaurants and a fabulous artisan gallery. Well…the same town that was crowded two years ago…had a difficult time finding a parking spot…was desolate this year. The restaurants were open only Thursday thru Sunday…what restaurants were still in existence. The streets were empty, the gallery still had good work, the inn was empty and the room dismal…seeming small towns are struggling or dying. This is so sad to see.
SO…with my travels, I didn’t do too much work these past few weeks, so not too much to post. I did four more small framed embroideries, but will talk about them next time. I remain happy and creative, but have a book I want to read, so I think I will take a few days off from the studio…later…from the slow studio

Very nice!
Thanks much! I hope to experiment with more. Sue
