LONGTAIL, mixed media, 33x12x9, metal armature, dyed cheesecloth, woven paper yarn, patinated copper strips, cording, dyed paper, found metal support and a beautiful rock.
I chose to feature this mixed media piece because the past few weeks have been a jumble of art, kitchen design (a whole other story) and experimentation. Nothing concrete has been finished to show you or to even talk about.
I completed this piece a few months ago and am happy with the way it turned out. My DH has completed a few more vessel-like armatures for me to build upon and I am beginning to develop my ideas for them…just beginning. The largest is almost 5 feet long and should make quite a statement when finished, so I want it to be the culmination of all the others as far as the most intriguing techniques.
a look inside…

I’ve also started on larger wrapped paintings, but am struggling with the right colors for the wrapping strips. I have tried different dyes, paints, inks and nothing has quite jived yet. The paintings are in hand…I am enjoying painting again…but the wraps need more work. It is frustrating for me to have a vision for the finished series, but not be able to have what I need to complete that vision. Fortunately, I am a patient person.
Hopefully to remedy this conundrum, a weeklong self-directed retreat is in my future. I booked a very comfortable house, within walking distance of groceries, restaurants and galleries where I can spend my time alone, concentrating on this series and creating, I hope, at least three larger works, if not complete, close to it. A walk to these amenities and maybe a visit with some old friends will be a nice, rejuvenating break every now and then. I am fortunate to be able to take that time to do what needs to be done on my artistic quest. I am readying what I need to have with me and so looking forward to a steady immersion in my creative endeavors.
So, I need to get focused and find a bit of success in coloring my wrapping cottons…until then, from the studio
