CHECKED BUT UNTAMED is one of two new recently completed textile constructions. The first two constructions I made in this tall and narrow format are sold. I wanted to keep exploring this presentation because it is so easy to hang in the more narrow spaces at your home…between two windows or doors, in a kitchen at the end of the cabinets or next to a media wall unit.
I love the black, swirled, painted and printed fabric in this piece. The strength of both the smaller and larger swirls contributed to the title…UNTAMED. She is a wild woman!
The second pieces is titled DEEP IMPRINTS. It is constructed in the same way, is the same size, but presents a different concept. I am relying on the larger printed fabric near the bottom of the totem to reference the title…imprinted with remnants of tapestries, muraled walls and old block prints.
Both of these pieces are 36x6x2, painted and printed canvas, free-motion quilted, minimal hand stitching and wrapped with painted, woven cotton strips. They are mounted on a wooden frame, wrapped with a lovely woven, soft fabric in a light tan color.
