These pieces are going to the Capitol Rotunda Gallery for the Synthesis Exhibit. They were the first pieces that I created specifically to enter into the show. I had a theme in mind for some of my work…under the sea…drifting…tidal pool (ended up being a piece in itself).
As those of you who have been following me for a while know, I have a lovely husband who is a metal artist who is willing to make armatures for me in most any shape I can imagine. I had been working with pods for a while and this shape seemed just right for me.
I painted some fabric…actually two layers painted together…to use to cover the armature. I wanted to make sure that after I quilted the cotton, the fabric would not droop when I sewed it together and covered the metal structure. Here it is cut to shape, ready to be quilted.

The armature and quilted surface.

I sewed the strips together and fitted it to the armature and then had to decide how I wanted the entire piece to look. I made some creatures to live on the reef and finished the top and bottom points with a copper face. Creatures inserted and finished…one…or I should say two…of my favorites…from the studio

Exceptional work! Refreshing and inspirational!
Thank you … encouraging me to continue. Sue
