Weaving parts

Nice wine color

I know I’ve been quiet for a while, but it is only because I have been working on fiber pieces to submit to an upcoming show. Some techniques are new to me and needed to be practiced and refined until I felt I could present them in a piece for jurying.

Today I an sharing some weaving that will become part of some new textile pieces. I don’t want to show you the finished work until after the submission. Some may be accepted, some not, but eventually I will show you all of them.

I thought I was exploring something new…new to ME…when I started weaving fabric, BUT, lo and behold, I had done textile weaving many years ago using felt, not cotton. DUH! Here it is in a basket I made many years ago.

Felt, tied and woven

This is how the fabric weaving starts, before it is painted. The fabric absorbs the paint so quickly that it requires many coats (at least four on each side) to reach full color saturation. Getting the color inside the knots is the hardest part BUT, when it is complete, it just sings.
