TWISTING IN THE WIND

TWISTING IN THE WIND is one of my recent…and favorite…pieces. The full piece can be seen in the photo at the end of this post.

I experimented with the pod shape for a while before I finished this one. I constructed the armature from a bronze colored wire woven in a random pattern to ensure the stability of the frame. I covered it with a brown mulberry paper and a few little twigs. I made the final wrap of fibrous paper with cording embedded to give the pod a shell and some great movement.

When this pod is properly presented as is shown below, the slightest air movement causes it to twist…ergo the name….from the studio
