Random Weaving

This piece (untitled as of yet, 38×22 inches) is partially done. I like the weaving and I like the material I used…rough and metal like.

I initially painted a large sheet of three layers of fabric fused together and then cut the shapes to weave. After they were assembled in this way, I began painting over the entire piece with varying rust colors. It is starting to look more like rusted steel…adding blacks, grays and a bit of nickel to give it a reflective shine in some areas. I think I will keep layering the paint for a while.

I placed the piece on a few nails on the side of the house to get a picture…I tend to make final decisions from a photo as opposed to in person as I find I see more “goods and bads” this way.

So far, so good…finish painting, add a hanging mechanism and call it done…OR any embellishments? Turned upside down? Horizontally? Who knows????…from the studio

I will finish and it will join me along with other experimental textile works and forms for my residency at A.I.R. Studios and Jen Tough Gallery, Sept. 11-17. My studio and three or four others will be open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-17, 10-6. Come see us! 4 Chamisa Dr., the corner of Rt. 285 and Alma, Eldorado Area
