I am fortunate to have an upcoming residency at AIR Studios and Jen Tough Gallery in Lamy, NM. I will be working in the studio beginning Sept. 11, with all the resident artist studios open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My goal for this time is to combine my painting and sewing skills into a series of modern wall pieces and sculptures which work cohesively together.

I have been painting fabric for many years, these being a few I chose to inspire me. I painted a few more pieces to add some life to the piece I had in mind, and it seemed to work.

This fabric was cut into strips to weave. I liked to result and painted many more pieces in this color so I would have enough to work with.

I need more woven squares to complete the hanging. Will I hang them separately or tied together somehow…do the quilted squares need some hand embroidery or other embellishment…will this be 16 pieces or 20 or more…so many questions unanswered at this time. I will make some more squares and then put it aside for a while and come back afresh in a few weeks….always a good plan…from the studio
